One Team for Every HVAC Need

A commercial kitchen generates heat, smoke, grease, steam, and odors at scale — all day, every day. Your HVAC system is the backbone that manages it all. An undersized or poorly maintained system means uncomfortable staff, unhappy guests, failed inspections, and escalating energy bills.

Hood Builder's HVAC services cover the full spectrum:

  • New system design and installation
  • Heating and air conditioning repair and replacement
  • Ventilation system fabrication and service
  • Make-up air unit installation and balancing
  • Air balancing and flow optimization
  • EPA compliance maintenance programs

We work directly with restaurant owners, facility managers, and general contractors — handling everything from initial assessment through final inspection sign-off.

Our HVAC Services

Air Conditioning

We supply, install, and service commercial air conditioning systems for restaurants of every size. Our technicians assess your facility's layout and cooling load, then recommend and install the right system — whether that's a split system, packaged unit, or forced-air setup. Forced-air systems can reduce energy costs by up to 20%. Once installed, we stand behind the system. If it malfunctions, we respond fast to get you back up and running — because a restaurant that's too hot or too cold loses customers.

Heating

From boilers and furnaces to heat pump systems and direct-fired units, Hood Builder supplies and installs the full range of commercial heating equipment. We select systems based on three key criteria:

  • Aesthetics — Units are sized and positioned to integrate cleanly with your facility's layout and décor
  • Energy Efficiency — We prioritize systems that operate efficiently at low temperatures, reducing year-round operating costs
  • System Type — Split systems or packaged units are matched to your building's size, layout, and usage patterns

DC inverter control is available on select systems, making heating and cooling more responsive and further reducing energy consumption in variable-demand environments.

Ventilation

Proper ventilation removes heat, smoke, grease, and odors from your kitchen while protecting staff, guests, and equipment. Hood Builder's technicians design, fabricate, and install commercial ventilation systems sized to your cooking volume, duct layout, and local code requirements.

Our ventilation capabilities include:

  • Upblast and utility exhaust fans — built for grease-prone applications
  • Sidewall discharge fans — configurable for your specific duct layout
  • Kitchen exhaust duct cleaning and maintenance
  • Ventilation system repair and balancing

We only use high-quality materials, and every system is designed to fit within your budget without compromising performance.

Make-Up Air

Every cubic foot of air your exhaust hood removes must be replaced — otherwise negative pressure builds, smoke rolls into the dining room, and doors become difficult to open. Hood Builder offers a complete line of indoor and outdoor make-up air units for commercial kitchens. Our systems deliver evenly tempered replacement air, heated by direct gas flame when required, so your kitchen stays balanced and comfortable.

Make-up air configurations are available for:

  • High-heat grease-generating cooking equipment (Type I hoods)
  • Steam and heat-only equipment (Type II hoods)
  • High-volume operations requiring thousands of CFM of replacement air

Air Balancing

Air balancing is the process of optimizing your HVAC system so that airflow is even throughout the facility — no hot spots, no cold zones, no negative pressure. It's one of the most overlooked services in commercial kitchen maintenance, and one of the most impactful.

Hood Builder's technicians follow a complete air balancing procedure:

  • Preliminary checks and system inspection
  • Measurement of air quantities at each terminal
  • Flow measurement from terminal to terminal
  • Balancing flow rates across all terminals
  • Final verification of fan RPM, static pressure, airflow, and air/room temperature

We recommend air balancing every two years for most commercial kitchens, or any time you notice uneven temperatures, smoke rollout, or increased energy costs. Balancing is also required after any major equipment change or duct modification.

Commercial HVAC FAQs

If your system is over 15 years old, requires frequent repairs, can't maintain comfortable temperatures despite service, or uses outdated refrigerant, replacement is often more cost-effective than continued repairs. Hood Builder performs a full assessment — equipment condition, load requirements, and operating costs — and gives you an honest recommendation. We never push replacement when a quality repair will solve the problem.

Air balancing is the process of adjusting airflow throughout your HVAC system so every area of your facility gets the right amount of heated or cooled air. Signs you need it: uneven temperatures across the dining room or kitchen, smoke drifting into dining areas, or doors that are hard to open due to pressure differences. We recommend balancing every two years.

Make-up air replaces the air your exhaust hood removes from the kitchen. Without balanced replacement air, negative pressure builds — smoke rolls into the dining room, HVAC equipment is strained, and doors become difficult to open. Commercial kitchen codes require proper ventilation balance. Hood Builder designs, installs, and services make-up air units sized to your hood's CFM requirements.

Most commercial restaurant HVAC systems should be serviced at least twice per year — before cooling season and before heating season. High-volume kitchens with heavy grease, steam, and exhaust loads often benefit from quarterly maintenance. Hood Builder's programs include filter changes, coil cleaning, airflow checks, and documentation to keep you EPA compliant year-round.

Yes. Hood Builder provides complete HVAC design and installation for new restaurant build-outs — including load calculations, duct layout, heating and cooling systems, make-up air, ventilation integration with hood systems, and final inspection sign-off. We work directly with restaurant owners, general contractors, and facility managers from initial assessment through certificate of occupancy.
